Peacebuilding
Enhancing conflict prevention and fostering democratic resilience and social peace.
The field of peacebuilding addresses the root causes of conflict, supports reconciliation, fights extremism, and helps create the conditions that are necessary for lasting peace, stability, and sustainable development in societies affected by violence.
Our services build on addressing root causes, strengthening institutions to rebuild fair legal systems, stable governance, and security forces; fostering reconciliation and promoting the development of local economies and access to social services. Our main focus is on:
- Fighting violent extremism and hate speech (in Europe and abroad)
- Protection of vulnerable person groups
- Response to affected populations
- Community awareness and resilience building
- Protection of cultural heritage
Our experience includes strengthening the capacities of international and regional bodies (such as the African Union) in their peacebuilding architecture. We promote conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms, social cohesion and community resilience, and empower youth and women in peace processes. Emphasis lies on building the capacity of civil society organisations to contribute to peace and reconciliation efforts. Our projects target Europe as well as the Global South.
