Support to the African Union for preventing and resolving violent conflicts and consolidating peace under the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA)
The project strengthens the newly established Department on Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) of the African Union Commission in its internal organizational procedures and capabilities.
GOPA is engaged to strengthen the Climate, Peace and Security nexus; thereby improving national early-warning and response systems, and national infrastructures for peace in AU member states. Our team monitors the implementation of vulnerability and resilience assessments as well as mitigation strategies.
GOPA makes sure to enhance youth participation in capacity building initiatives and communication campaigns, promoting leadership and organizational changes that enable inclusive, participatory and adaptive management approaches, intra- and inter-departmental collaboration and joint reporting. GOPA conducts policy dialogues, thematic research, prepares concept papers, studies and policy documents as requested by PAPS in the fields of peace, security and governance, and helped in the evaluation of the Roadmap on implementing the AU’s transitional justice policy. GOPA also supports the AU fellowship programme on disarmament and non-proliferation through sensitization and capacity building.
