Developing a green roads toolkit & guidance for ADB projects

The Green Roads Toolkit project, led by GOPA MetaMeta, the International Road Federation IRF, and ADB, addresses the environmental challenges of road expansion in Asia and the Pacific. Offering over 140 best practices across nine sustainability dimensions, the Excel-based Toolkit helps practitioners select tailored green road interventions. Piloted in Tajikistan and Maharashtra, it demonstrated its value by informing final designs with measures like CO₂ reduction and bioengineering. The Toolkit has been pitched internationally, documented best practices, and supports integration into national programs, advancing climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure.
