Centres of Competence in Egypt - A New Era for TVET
In a joint venture led by GOPA Tech with GOPA Worldwide Consultants' Economic Competitiveness and Partnerships (ECP) team, implementation of Centres of Competence (CoCs) in Egypt are underway. Co-financed by the Government of Egypt, the European Union and the German Development Cooperation through KfW, this flagship initiative is driven by a shared vision to equip Egypt’s youth with critical skills demanded by a rapidly evolving labour market - in line with Egypt’s 2030 agenda. CoCs are designed to foster employability, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
A Strong Presence at EduTech Egypt
On April 20-21, the CoCs had a strong presence at EduTech Egypt, the country’s largest event showcasing TVET. Through an interactive booth, CoC representatives engaged directly with visitors, students and parents, sparking conversations about CoCs innovative approach to technical education. Over 300 students from preparatory and TVET schools left with a clearer picture of this upcoming innovation in the Egyptian TVET sector.
Team leadership Pedro Schünemann Christófaro Silva contributed to the forum by providing expert insight as panellist during the “The Global Skills Passport: Quality Assurance and Accreditation, Mobility & Ethical Recruitment” session, and Mahmoud Adel Deab moderated the session “Vision for Empowering the Workforce: Future of Work and Global Collaboration”, sharing insights on the future of technical education and skills development. Project experts Sherine Eisa and Mahmoud Fathalla also addressed a different segment of audiences in the open theatre, namely students, teacher, and parents, further highlighting their role as drivers of educational transformation in Egypt.
What's Next
The first CoC will open in Belbis, Sharkeya in 2026, serving the Delta region. Additional centres will be strategically located across Egypt to maximise regional impact. Each centre will act as a collaborative platform, uniting educators, employers, and policymakers. Training programmes are co-designed with industry leaders to ensure they remain relevant and adaptable to new technologies and sectors.
This project is delivered in partnership with Misr El Kheir Foundation MEK, the General Authority for Educational Buildings (GAEB), and leading private sector partners.
