A two-site measurement campaign is generating the reliable wind data needed to plan an 8 GW development portfolio in Uzbekistan.

The challenge

Wind investment depends on measurements that capture local conditions over time. Poor installation, missing data or uncorrected equipment faults can distort energy estimates across an 8 GW portfolio, making dependable monitoring and maintenance as important as the initial mast design.

Our goal

The campaign was designed to establish a robust wind-resource evidence base at two development sites. Accurate, continuous measurements will help ACWA Power understand the resource, compare locations and make better-informed decisions on the configuration and progression of future projects.

Our approach

Measurement masts and their sensor systems are supplied, installed and commissioned at both sites. Data are monitored and analysed throughout the campaign, with preventive and corrective maintenance protecting continuity and accuracy. At completion, the equipment is decommissioned in a controlled manner and the validated record supports subsequent energy assessment.

Success story

Uzbekistan's campaign therefore treats measurement as an operating service. Masts and sensors are commissioned carefully, data are watched for anomalies and maintenance teams respond when equipment requires attention. Preventive visits reduce the chance of failure during important seasonal conditions, while later validation distinguishes real wind behaviour from instrument error. Controlled decommissioning closes the field phase without abandoning assets or sites. The resulting data set can give developers a firmer basis for estimating energy, comparing alternatives and deciding where the next stages of design and finance should focus.
