The challenge
Renewable energy remains underused across many ECOWAS markets despite strong wind, solar and biomass potential and growing demand for reliable electricity. Projects often stall between early potential and implementation because developers and public institutions lack targeted preparation, contractual support and access to lessons from neighbouring markets.
Our goal
ProCEM II creates stronger conditions for grid-connected and decentralised renewable energy across markets with substantial wind, solar and biomass potential. It seeks to help member states and project developers move from market potential to concrete initiatives that can be assessed, structured and advanced.
Our approach
Promising renewable-energy projects are identified and matched with targeted technical assistance. Project analyses and pilot proposals build the case for action, while contractual support addresses issues that arise as initiatives move closer to implementation. Experience is shared across ECOWAS markets so that lessons from one assignment can inform institutions and developers elsewhere in the region.
