The Malatya Dried Apricot Licensed Warehouse and Exchange project was successfully completed on 25 August 2026. Funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, the project supported Malatya’s world-renowned dried apricot sector in becoming more competitive, sustainable, and market-oriented.
Over the course of implementation, the project helped strengthen the institutional and operational capacity of the Malatya Dried Apricot Licensed Warehouse (DALWE), Authorised Classifier Laboratory (ACL), Electronic Exchange (EXCH), and Processing and Packaging Facility.
Key results include:
- Strengthened institutional capacity and business development processes
- An innovative business model, business plan, and sustainability plan prepared for Maklidaş
- Improved quality management & integrated management systems
- Training and consultancy support delivered to SMEs, producers, and sector stakeholders
- 70 SMEs reached through training, seminars, and one-to-one consultancy
- Preparatory work for clustering and UR-GE initiatives carried out to support the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector
- Support provided for sustainable production, value-added products, and new markets
- Communication materials and a project promotional film developed to increase visibility (view the film here)
The project was implemented in a challenging context, including the post-earthquake repair process and the severe frost event in 2025. Through close cooperation between the Technical Assistance Team and project stakeholders, the implementation approach was continuously adapted, and the planned training and capacity-building activities were completed.
Beyond strengthening existing structures, the project has helped lay the foundations for a more resilient and sustainable Malatya apricot value chain — one better equipped to create value, connect to markets, and support the sector’s long-term development.
