New TVET apprenticeship model delivers proven employment results

GOPA and Partners Set to Launch Egypt's First Centre of Competence

Exciting developments in Egypt’s TVET sector: The first Centre of Competence will open in Belbeis, Sharqia, this year, marking a significant milestone in a comprehensive initiative to equip Egypt’s youth with market-relevant skills.

GOPA, alongside partners including the Egyptian Government, the European Union, and KfW Development Bank, is implementing this landmark project. With EUR 170 million in committed German financing and dedicated support from partners including the Misr El Kheir Foundation and the General Authority for Educational Buildings, the initiative is building a network of centres across Egypt.

The centres offer a distinctive model: three years of industry-focused apprenticeship combined with two years of technical education in fields including renewable energy, energy efficiency, automotive, and construction. Early evidence from similar EU-backed programmes shows employment rates exceeding 80% — demonstrating the practical impact of this model.

This is more than infrastructure; it’s an investment in Egypt’s future workforce and economic resilience, aligned with Egypt’s 2030 agenda.
